On Veelaan, just off the water in Amsterdam Oost, Cancún serves Mexican food built on the classics: a wide range of hand-pressed tacos, ceviche cured to order, slow-cooked meats, and a tapas-style spread of smaller plates built for sharing. The kitchen doesn’t cut corners on masa or salsa. Alongside the Mexican menu, we bring in flavors from the wider Caribbean, jerk spice, plantain, rum-forward sauces, a nod to the coastline that gives the neighborhood its name.
Cancún is also where Amsterdam Oost comes for its weekly rituals, like Taco Tuesday and Oyster Saturday, each with its own menu and its own regulars. On select evenings, dinner is paired with live music, an intimate set over the meal rather than a night out.
After work, the bar shifts into a proper borrel, with a curated wine list and small plates built for standing around a table rather than sitting down to a full meal. Come for one glass or stay for the evening.
